Travels with Nikki
Poor little Nikki got sick the night we spent in Denver - we got to try out our mom and dad status in real time with a little girl throwing up. Emmie threw up once, too, and we later found out all the kids at the foster home were sick while we were gone, too, so Kat and I are hoping we dodged that viral bullet. At any rate, she didn't get a lot of sleep, so she made up for it by sawing logs in the back of the van. She slept for almost four hours. We knew she was feeling better when she woke up and started singing.
I decided the girls should know something about the car, so I took it upon myself to teach Emily how to pump gas. Nikki was feeling left out, so I put her on window duty. Kat took this one from inside the van - Nikki spent about five minutes working on that one window. Check out how determined she looks in this and the following shots.

She was bound and determined to make sure every single piece of glass on that Honda was as clean as it was the day it left the factory.
After we'd gotten the van all squeaky clean, we still had over an hour to drive in to their foster home. Nikki decided she was going to try to sleep - she responded to my call of "Goodnight, little duck!" with "Goodnight, father duck!!" Melt, melt, melt.
I was going to post more photos here, but Blogger is being rather difficult, and there's a dude waiting to use the Holiday Inn computer right now. More photos of Emmie helping with the van later.

ok...I didn't really understand how much my heart would break when one of my girls was sick. At one point this sad little voice from the backseat of the van said in tears, "Katrina! My mouth is watering again!! *sob*". We had given her a bag "just in case". The bag of course ended up having a leak. So, here we were on the side of the road with Nikki leaning over the bag being sick and the contents leaking out the bottom. I rubbed her back, got a 7-up, cleaned up everything as best as I could and...what does one do with a leaking bag of barf in a strange town with NO idea of where the garbage is? Well, let's just say that there is a suprise left in the street in front of someone's house. Can you imagine someone taking their dog for a walk and finding that? EWW!! Desperate times call for desperate measures!--Kat
I am so extremely happy for you guys.....wow....this has been a long time coming....congrats ....they are beautiful and obviously, very thrilled to be a part of the "Rainey" family!
Miss ya,
Kris
