It was 20 years ago...

The other day, I heard a student breezing through the chorus of a song called "1985" by the band Bowling for Soup. I looked up the lyrics, and found it to be quite a cool little song, which manages to reference the movies The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and Madonna and Bruce Springsteen, and the classic complaint of every music fan over 30, "and music still on MTV."

It got me thinking - geez, 1985 was TWENTY years ago? Whaaa? How'd THAT go and happen? I mean, memories of Things That Happened Twenty Years Ago was supposed to be the realm of Old People, not people like me. I certainly don't feel like an old person (although, I must admit, I've had a chronic pain in my right shoulder for something like four months now - I'm thinking it's years of using a computer mouse, coupled with more guitar playing, that's finally starting to take its toll).

At any rate, this post was originally going to be about a music festival I attended in April of 1985, one of the very first events I attended with my youth group at Bethany Church in Long Beach, although I'm thinking that needs to be for another post - this one is too filled with age-induced ennui and angst (and if there's anything the Breakfast Club generation knows, it's ennui and angst!)
