Well, Sheila, maybe this isn't THE post, but still...

Sheila commented a couple days ago about waiting for "THE post" - the time when I can finally say Clan Rainey has expanded its membership.

First of all, I must offer that I am sincerely humbled that a person whom I have never personally met would be moved to write a comment such as she did. It truly shows to me in a tangible sense the nature of the family of God.

Next, I have some, well, news.

Not THE news, mind you, but news about THE news. News that might lead to THE news. (okay, I'll stop).

In last week's episode, Katrina and Scott were impatiently awaiting a call from the social worker in Colorado who represents Emily, Nicole and Kayla. Last we'd heard, we were one of two families who might be blessed to bring these three home. The attorney representing the girls was out of town for the week, however, so we had to wait to find out what would happen next.

Katrina has been of the opinion since that first phone call that we're going to find ourselves in Colorado sometime soon. I haven't been quite as sure. Monday of this week, Kat called the social worker, and she was away from her desk. She left a message. She called again on Wednesday, and she was away again, but Kat didn't leave a message this time.

Today, Kat and I decided I should call the social worker and find out what's going on.

Turns out, a lot.

She has been trying to reach us, but our phone has been down off and on owing to weird power outages the past couple of days.

Anyway, the long and short of it is, on June 21st, we're going to have a phone conference with the social worker and the girls' lawyer, and if things go well, we'll be traveling to Colorado to meet them and the girls!

What this means, friends 'n neighbors, is I'm now on the same page with Kat...which is, in my mind, one step closer to them being part of our family.

Please continue to pray for Emily, Nicole and Kayla - they might really be my daughters as early as this summer.

Some pictures...well, I put together three little scrapbooks (kid sized each page is less than 1/2 a page). One page about local stuff, one page about our hose, two pages each for Scott and I, one for my mom, one for our pets, two for travel, two for friends, one for Halloween and one for Christmas...and oh yeah... one for just fun. I will wait till it is appropriate to share with them, but this way they can have their own books to keep for a lifetime. Also, it may help during "get to know each other time" or "on the plane home" time. If I was 8 or 10 or 5 and someone told me of a place called Washington where I would live, I would be scared to death, but the books turned out great and I think it will help a lot. Also, I thought that it might empower the girls with information so when people ask about their new family, they can tell what they want instead of the adults always knowing and sharing scary things.

For example I imagine two possible conversations.

Adult power "Washington? Do you know it rains up there all the time? They NEVER get snow! This family doesn't have other kids so you'll have to be really quiet and good or they won't want you"

Kid Power " Yep, Washington, it rains a lot (cause the first page of MY book has a million raindrop stickers), but there are a lot of pictures with sun and even snow. My new grandma has a pool! And my new family likes to travel to fun places like Disneyland. My new mom mad a book for me so I know she likes to do arts and crafts. They have a dog named Mollie and at Halloween they have a Tigger dressed in a vampire costume that is 10 ft tall! My new dad plays the guitar. They are fun! I know what my new house looks like, my new neighborhood, my new state, my new city, my new school and my new church. I even have a new kitty...I forgot his name, let me go look at MY book and find out."

Ok, so maybe I am stretching things a little, but the main idea is that the info for their new family is THEIRS and they can share with confidence.

Don't worry...all identifying things are blurred out by the magic of computers and the map has a red heart sticker on a big area.

It is really hard to think of anything else, but life has a way of interupting--at least until I go to bed at night and then I lay there and imagine...

scooter,

well bro, I can only wish you the best of chances. An instant family. Like the Brady Bunch, only without the kids first.

If you get them, when you get your kids, this whole blog is gonna change; and it will be good; man will you have stuff to talk about.

And congrats, again, on the Ojo Taylor post. I remember seeing him on the cover of the first album back in, oh, 81 or somehthing...trench coat and converse if I remember right.

Then of course, seeing the band in person a number of times, always a rocking good time. I remember them on the free speech platform at CSUS.

And Randy fricken Taylor! Dude, he better start blogging. I think of him and his brother (and beautiful Kat) more than you'd think.

Sorry I haven't posted here in a while; doing online summer school and working in the dark side on my own blog, but great to hear your stuff man. And again, best of luck on the young ones. It will happen eventually.
