Two Dreams
Last night I had two of the strangest dreams...
In the first, I was a passenger on a jet. There was a Japanese boy who was seated next to me. As the jet was getting ready to fly, he got up and told me he was going to go sit with his father. I looked out the window, and saw the ground slowly slipping away. Suddenly, the whine of the jets lost power, and we were landing again - like the pilot had aborted a takeoff. I can recall speaking to a person I had spoken with before takeoff (not the Japanese boy, but a middle-aged southern European man driving an old Volkswagen) about the aborted takeoff. We were supposed to fly to St. Petersburg, which was, for some reason, now situated on the coast of Nova Scotia, then on to Japan. But we never got there.
This dream then morphed into something a bit more disturbing. I was no longer in the dream, but an observer. I saw a mid-nineteenth century sailing vessel, and a young woman with dark hair was being thrown overboard. She was attached, somehow, to a large piece of wood or a log. As she thrashed about in the water, she reached up and carved some sort of symbol onto the back of her left hand with her right (it appeared her left hand was shackled to the log/wood). The symbol, which I never saw clearly (I can recall something that looked rectangular with some marks in the middle) seemed to be of incredible importance. Time passed, and it was obvious from the way her body lolled about that she was dead - her legs were covered with grotesque dark spots, like bruises. Then, suddenly, I'm on the coast of China, and a man is walking around in the surf, and he finds the log with the body attached.
I don't know what either of these may mean. You are welcome to offer your interpretations, or just to read and figure I ate that last slice of garlic chicken pizza too late last night.

It's got to be the pizza. Either that or you are going to travel to Asia some time soon...Don't take the slow boat to China would be my interpretation.
[Disclaimer: this interpretation is for entertainment only, not investment purposes]
Okay...Dream #1
------
Taking off, then landing = possibly the feeling that you want to / need to get somewhere but can't quite reach it. (I.e. you've been put on hold).
Japanese boy = possibly related to your recent not so pleasant experience with two exchange students who were in your life for a very short time, then went away (home? to different host parents? dunno...in any case, it was clear he was not YOUR kid)
Middle-aged southern European man = sorry to say this Scott. This is the easiest one for me to identify. It was Fabio. And your conversation betrays your secret admiration for how easy he makes people believe "it's not butter."
St. Petersburg between Nova Scotia & Japan = lousy geography skills. Nothing more.

Dream #2
Definitely the pizza.

Okay, on a serious note. Did these dreams just seem odd? Or did they really disturb you?
As Troy told me in my prior dream-oddysey post, sometimes its not as much the images as the feelings they are evoking for you.
What did you think about the dreams? Can you relate it to anything you are feeling? Or going through right now? Anxiety, fear, anger, helplessness, etc. That's it for me.
Scott, I would agree with Gary that, upon finding yourself in Asia, you don't take the slow boat to China. I've tried it. It aint pretty. I can't believe it's not better.
I mean "butter."
Scooter,
I like the second dream a lot. If you ever get the chance, read Phantastes or Lilith by MacDonald. Lots of imagery like that; C. S. Lewis was a big fan.
