If you can snatch this pebble from my hand, Grasshopper...

I was reminded of a fellow I knew at Bethany and at Long Beach State many years ago by a post of Karen's.  I'm sure Troy remembers the guy's name (Paul something or other?), but I only can recall the nickname Troy referred to him by - "Grasshopper."  I'm not sure if this was some weird "Kung-Fu" reference, or if it had to do with the fact that he went barefoot everywhere and ate only organic fruits and vegetables.

I do recall hearing some pretty bizarre stories out of him - one of nearly freezing to death one winter hitchhiking across North Dakota or someplace like that.  I also recall that he may have been in Alpha Gamma Omega with Troy, too.  (On a side note - once, Troy and I went to Alpha Delta Chi's "presents" night - when all the new pledges to the sorority were "presented" to the public.  There were a lot of AGO guys there, and Troy considered teaching me the secret AGO handshake, and telling the guys I was from the Santa Barbara chapter.

Apart from attending one rush party at Delta Chi, that was the closest I came to being a part of the Greek system at CSULB.

I never knew what became of Grasshopper.  I had one class with him, English Drama, ENG 300 or something, with Sir A.R.L. Bell.

And Troy never did teach me that handshake.

Scott,

oh, dude, yes. The secret handshake! All the girls knew it.

I posted a little on Paul at chameleon. His stories were all true, and it looks like I need to throw up a post called 'wild moments with paul.' He was tough to be around sometimes, truthfully, but he had a great heart and he never, or rarely, quit.
